Landfill gas

Landfill gas is created during the anaerobic decomposition of organic municipal solid waste. Depending upon the landfill design and waste composition, thousands of landfills are available worldwide to collect and utilise this valuable renewable energy source for power generation. If landfill gas is allowed to escape to atmosphere, methane contained within it is a powerful greenhouse gas, 21 times more so than carbon dioxide. Therefore, its prevention of escape to atmosphere and its utilisation as a renewable fuel source is important.

Landfill Gas Collection
For a landfill utilization that prevents greenhouse gas escaping into the atmosphere and avoiding offensive smells, the gas must be continuously extracted. Tubes are drilled into the landfill and connected by a pipework system. Using a gas-blower, the gas is sucked from the landfill. A gas collection system will capture the gas from various holes and gas treatment system will dehuminize and clean the gas ensuring a stable gas quality. After the gas will be converted to electrical and thermal energy through high efficient gas generator sets.
Avoiding harmful gases enter into the atmosphere, the Kyoto protocol applies and certificates can be created and sold to market.
